The Symposium will focus on all aspects of modelling and simulation techniques, particularly those involving intelligent and hybrid intelligent systems in engineering, remote sensing and wireless technologies. Models in computational intelligence, hybrid and connectionist systems, evolutionary algorithms and fuzzy systems are used by designers, implementers and managers to improve understanding, evaluation and assessment. Modelling and Simulation techniques provide fundamental support at all stages of the life cycle in application areas such as industry, business, energy, transport and the environment.

Papers are invited in these and other areas:

-     Industry, Business and Management

-     Algorithms, Methods and their Applications

-     Methodologies and Tools

-     Energy, Power Generation and Distribution

-     Distributed Systems and Networks

-     Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

-     Environment and Health

-     Education and Training

-     Bioinformatics

- Remote Sensing applications & technologies

- Robotics, Fuzzy modelling, Control and Automation

- Software Agents and Agent Based Simulation

- Knowledge and Data Mining

Submission Guidelines

You are invited to submit:
- full paper of 6 pages (Letter format) for oral presentation,

- proposal to organize a technical session and/or workshop.

Submissions must be original, unpublished work containing new and interesting results that demonstrate current research in all areas of intelligent systems modelling and simulation and their applications in science, technology, business and commerce. As in previous years, see AMS2007, AMS2008, AMS2009, AMS2010, AMS2011, AMS2012, AMS2013, and AMS2014, the proceedings of the Conference will be submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library (CSDL) and I-Xplore. The conference is jointly organised by UK Simulation Society and Asia Modelling and Simulation Section and is sponsored by:

- IEEE UK &RI Computer Chapter (technically co-sponsor)

- UK Simulation Society (full sponsor)

- European Simulation federation, EUROSIM (patron/supporter/promoter)

- European Council for Modelling and Simulation, ECMS (patron/supporter/promoter)

Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper. All papers are to be submitted electronically,- see full instructions under Paper Submission above, in PDF or Word format. All papers will be peer reviewed by at least three independent referees of the international program committee of AMS2015.

Authors of the best papers will be invited to revise and extend their work for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Simulation: Systems, Science and Technology.

Conference website: http://ams2015.info

Attendance and presentation

1. Non-attendance does not affect publication in the CD, it only affects submission to I-Xplore (about 6 to 12 months after the conference).

2. Authors who find it impossible to attend but still wish their paper to be submitted to I-Xplore must upload their Presentation file to EDAS for review by the committee to approve submission to I-Xplore. The presentation file must include the reasons and explanation for non attendance in the first slide after the title slide.

3. Authors who confirm their intention to attend and present but do not show up will not have the proceedings CD sent to them nor will their paper be submitted to I-Xplore.

4. The presentation program must be accurate to avoid time waste.

I-Xplore: a paper will not be submitted to I-Xplore if it suffers from one or more of the following problems:

1. Below average English,

2. Excessive number of citations to the authors own work in References,

3. Little interaction with EE and Computing,

4. Not within the conference scope or has not followed Template,

5. Author did not offer Valid reasons for not attending or not submitted the presentation file (for committee review) or both.

Keynote Speaker

A Hybrid Modeling Approach for

Energy-efficient Execution of Parallel Applications

Yong Meng TEO

It has become apparent around 2000s that the ability to improve single-processor performance has run up against power limit but the demand for increasing computer performance remains unabated. It is estimated that datacenters delivering Internet services alone consumes over 2% of US electric power. The advent of datacenters increases the availability of heterogeneous systems with different performance-power ratios and introduces new opportunities for energy-efficient execution of parallel applications [1, 2].

This keynote, divided into three main parts, focuses on a hybrid modeling approach to exploit energy-efficient execution on heterogeneous platforms for more sustainable growth in computer performance. First, we introduce a classification of heterogeneous platforms covering high-performance processors, low-power servers, and performance accelerators among others. Secondly, we discuss a new hybrid approach combining both measurements and an analytical model to determine energy-efficient configurations for executing parallel applications on heterogeneous systems [4]. By modeling the workload service demands on cores, memory and I/O devices of a node, we obtain a Pareto-optimal mix of nodes that service a job using minimum energy while maintaining a service time deadline. While datacenter jobs are embarrassingly parallel, many scientific applications are relying on hybrid programming models to efficiently utilize resources with and across nodes. Lastly, we show how the core model can be extended for energy efficient execution of hybrid parallel programs [3, 4].

Biography

TEO Yong Meng is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and an Affiliate Professor at the NUS Business Analytics Centre. He was a Visiting Professor at various institutes in the Chinese Academy of Science, China from 2010-2014. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Manchester. His research interest is on parallel and distributed systems and applications. In the last five years, he focused on the performance of parallel systems, cloud computing, and emergent properties in complex systems. The paper on strategy-proof dynamic pricing of cloud computing resources won the Best Paper Award at the 10th International Conference on Algorithms and Architectures for Parallel Processing in 2010.  Another paper, co-authored with his PhD student, on time-based semantic validation won the ACM SIGSIM Best PhD Student Paper Award in 2009. He leads the Computer Systems Research Group. He also served as Advisor (Directors Office) on Large-Scale Computing Systems, Asia-Pacific Science and Technology Centre, Sun Microsystems Inc. from 2007-2008, and External Grant Evaluator, European Research Council (Ideas Specific Program) from 2008-2013. He has received numerous external research grants including European Commission, Fujitsu Computers (Singapore) Pte Ltd, Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd (Japan), Sun Microsystems/Oracle (USA), Nvidia, and PSA Corporation (Singapore) among other institutions.
